Help for ADHD Symptoms

Understanding Attention and Focus Challenges

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) involves patterns of inattention, impulsivity, and/or hyperactivity that interfere with daily life.

For children, this may show up as difficulty in school, trouble completing assignments, or behavioral challenges. For adults, it may affect work performance, organization, relationships, and self-confidence.

Common symptoms can include:

ADHD presents differently in every person. Some struggle primarily with inattention, while others experience more hyperactivity or impulsivity.

The exact cause of ADHD is not fully understood. Research suggests that genetics, brain development, and differences in neural signaling may contribute.

Conventional Treatment for ADHD

ADHD is commonly treated with prescription medications, including stimulant and non-stimulant options. These medications work by affecting neurotransmitters involved in attention and impulse control. While they do not cure ADHD, they can help manage symptoms for many individuals.

Behavioral and supportive therapies are also frequently recommended. These may include:

  • Behavioral therapy
  • Executive functioning coaching
  • Social skills training
  • Psychotherapy
  • Parent training (for children with ADHD)

For some individuals, medication and behavioral therapy provide meaningful relief. Others may continue to experience challenges or prefer to explore additional options.

What is MeRT?

At Brain Treatment Center Newport Beach, we offer MeRT® (Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy) as a personalized, brain-based approach for individuals experiencing attention and focus challenges.

MeRT uses the same core neuromodulation technology found in rTMS (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation), but incorporates quantitative EEG (qEEG) and EKG data to help guide treatment planning.

Here’s how it works:

  • A qEEG is performed to evaluate patterns of brain activity.

  • Areas of dysregulation are identified.

  • A personalized stimulation protocol is developed based on frequency, location, and power settings tailored to the individual.

  • Gentle magnetic pulses are delivered through a coil placed on the scalp in an outpatient setting.

Sessions typically last 30–45 minutes and are performed five days per week over several weeks. Treatment plans vary depending on individual response and clinical presentation.

The equipment used in this process is FDA-cleared. rTMS is FDA-approved for Major Depressive Disorder and OCD and is used off-label in the clinical practice of medicine for other conditions, including ADHD.

Insurance and Payment Information

At this time, MeRT® for ADHD is generally considered an off-label application of rTMS technology. rTMS is FDA-approved for Major Depressive Disorder and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Treatment for ADHD is not currently FDA-approved, and insurance reimbursement for this indication is uncommon.

We are considered out of network with most insurance providers and do not file insurance claims on behalf of patients. However, we can provide a detailed receipt (superbill) at the conclusion of treatment, which you may submit to your insurance company to request possible reimbursement.

Please note that our clinic does not accept Medicare or Medicaid.

Some patients have reported partial reimbursement for certain services, such as EEG testing or clinical evaluations, but coverage varies by plan and is not guaranteed.

Payment Options

We accept all major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.

CareCredit® is also available as a financing option. CareCredit is an independent healthcare financing company that offers short-term promotional financing plans for qualified applicants. Approval decisions are made directly by CareCredit.

If you have questions about insurance or payment, our New Patient Coordinator is happy to discuss your specific situation.
