Julie Kim, M.D., FACP
Dr. Julie Kim is a Board-Certified Internist with over 25 years of medical experience. Since 2013, she has served as the Medical Director of the Brain Treatment Centers in Newport Beach, San Diego, and Cardiff. Over the past decade, she has treated more than 6,000 patients with MeRT® at the flagship Brain Treatment Center in Newport Beach, where this groundbreaking therapy began.
As the most experienced MeRT clinician worldwide, she not only provides exceptional patient care but also trains other physicians in MeRT technology. Therefore, she has played a vital role in expanding access to this innovative treatment.
Education and Background
Dr. Kim’s medical journey began at Kent State University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science. Through a six-year combined undergraduate–medical school program, she earned her medical degree from Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine. Afterward, she completed her residency in internal medicine at Lutheran General Hospital in Des Plaines, IL.
She is board-certified in internal medicine and recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Before joining Brain Treatment Center, Dr. Kim practiced primary care for 14 years. During this time, she developed a deep connection with patients and a lifelong commitment to compassionate, high-quality care.
Commitment to Brain Health
Bringing that same passion to Brain Treatment Center, Dr. Kim focuses on encouraging brain development and optimizing brain function non-invasively, without the use of medication. Since joining the team, she has pioneered treatment for patients with autism, post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, stroke, depression, and other neurological conditions. She has also witnessed firsthand how MeRT therapy transforms not only her patients’ lives but also the lives of their families and communities. This impact continues to inspire her dedication each day.
A True Partnership
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Kim takes pride in clearly explaining how an individual’s brainwave patterns may affect thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. More importantly, she helps patients understand how MeRT can optimize those brainwaves to improve mood, cognition, and overall well-being.
Beyond her professional role, Dr. Kim values service. Together with her daughter, she is active in the National Charity League. Furthermore, she supports OC Ukraine, a nonprofit co-founded in 2022 by her son to assist refugee families displaced by the war in Ukraine.

Those are objective changes that we see; patients clinically will feel better, and the qEEG validates the changes and why they feel better. It would be difficult if I did not have that qEEG. We’re looking at the brain, an organ, that’s disruptive and our goal is to fix that disruption and to synchronize it.
“Once patients can see the changes objectively, they feel more confident that there’s value to the treatment. This is a life-changing technology there are so many indications and it helped so many people that maybe didn’t have any other options.”
